M.J’s “First Christmas”

Christmas has always been my favourite time of year,  all the great food, parties, desserts the giving and of course the receiving make for such an exciting time of year.  However as I have gotten older, the holiday has slowly lost a bit of its magic.  Probably because I do not live close to home, so I miss out on the family Christmases, but also because it is only just the two of us, so a part of me doesn’t want to do the baking, cooking and the extra details because it will only be the two of us eating it all!

Yet this year was different, even though our little M.J. is still in the womb completely oblivious to anything going on in the outside world, this Christmas regained a bit of that lost magic that I love so much.  It was hard to believe that this year would be our last year celebrating Christmas together as a twosome!  We dreamed of what it would be like to soon be a threesome, a family of our own, and that magic came back.  Christmas is truly a wonderful holiday for children and I cannot wait to experience it with ours in the very new future.

This year M.J. was already spoiled with beautiful blankets, stuffed toys, adorable ones-ies, cloth diapers and insightful books!  The whole experience was so exciting for Mike and I as it was a beautiful reality check of what’s to come.  I bought our first bottles for Mike and a couple of glow in the dark soothers.  I also bought our first story book for M.J. which will be a keep sake for Mike and I this year.  The story is titled “On The Night You Were Born” by Nancy Tillman.  I Googled “stories for newborns” and this book popped up in first place from Amazon.  So I went looking for it at Chapters and I was thrilled with it.  The illustrations are stunning and the words are lovely and moving, the perfect first story for our little one.

My sister in-law also gave us a very personal beautiful gift of her daughter’s blanket.  Another timeless gift that can be passed on in the family, a very special piece for our new family.

It was a wonderful Christmas this year, a prelude to the many exciting ones to come.
